Adams County Jail

OVERCROWDING AT THE ADAMS COUNTY JUDICIAL CENTER HAD BECOME SO SEVERE, INMATES BEGAN SLEEPING ON HOLDING CELL FLOORS.

Once conditions reached an unmanageable state at the Decatur, Indiana jail, the county pushed forward with plans for a more spacious facility. Following a number of discussions held by local officials, construction finally kicked off on a new 57,000 square foot building in the summer of 2015.

Although a larger facility was the primary requirement for the planning committee, selecting the right detention equipment came in at a close second. In addition to the installation of prefabricated cells which allowed construction time to be reduced by more than six months, working drawings called for Kane Innovations’ Fixed Vantage Wall Mezzanine Barriers, Fixed Steel Vantage Wall Plus Barriers and a Vantage Wall Door. These products were installed at various places throughout the jail.

The brand new Adams County Jail, which became fully operational in February 2017, includes a sheriff’s office and 911 operations, plus enough beds for 189 inmates, as opposed to the former 60. Financially, the project was a huge success, coming at $3.5 million under budget.
